Something is not updating or feels broken

The quickest fix in such cases is to reload the board from the top of titlebar.

The board feels slow

A board over a folder with a few hundred files can get heavy. In rough order of how much they cost:

• Video wallpapers are the single heaviest thing you can put on a board, especially on a laptop. A still image will noticeably help battery life. See Wallpapers.
• Website widgets each run a real browser. A few are fine, a dozen are not. Turning off Load Automatically means they cost nothing until you open them. See Website.
• Folders showing their contents draw every file inside them. Turning off Show Folder Contents on the folders you rarely open makes a visible difference. See Folder settings.
• Hiding what you never look at takes it off the board entirely. See Pinning and hiding.

There is also a Virtualise Off-Screen Items setting in Board Settings, which stops Deskboard drawing items scrolled out of view. It is decided automatically from the number of items on the board, so there is rarely a reason to touch it.
