Opening files

Double-click a file, or select it and press Enter. It opens in whatever app your system normally uses for that kind of file.

Double-clicking a folder does one of two things:

  • If the folder is a board of its own, it opens as a board, in a new tab.
  • Otherwise, it opens in your file manager.

See Nested boards and Opening in your file manager.

You can give any file or folder its own command, which overrides your system default.

Right-click it and choose Set Open Command. Write the command with {path} where the file’s path should go:

code "{path}"

The dialog offers ready-made commands. Pick one, or write your own. The command must contain {path} to be saved.

You can set a command for several selected items at once, and Reset to Default puts a file back to opening normally.

Some things are better off with Deskboard out of the way, such as a game or a heavy application.

In edit mode, tick Close Deskboard on Open on that file. Opening it from the board then closes Deskboard once the app has started.

While the app is waiting to be load, a loading animation appears and the board remains usable.

See File settings.
