Create and delete boards

Any folder on your computer can become a board. Whatever is already inside it appears on the board straight away, arranged for you.

Click Create Board. The dialog has two tabs:

  • Existing Folder: drop a folder onto the dialog, or click Select Folder and browse to it.
  • New Folder: give the board a name and choose where the folder should be created.

You can also tick Create Desktop Shortcut here to get a shortcut straight away, including a custom icon. See Board shortcuts.

On Windows, right-click any folder in your file manager and choose Open with Deskboard.

Right-click a folder on your board and choose Open with Deskboard. If that folder is already a board it just opens; if it is not, it becomes one.

This is how nested setups get built. See Nested boards.

Your files are not moved, copied or renamed. A board is a second way of looking at a folder, not a new place to keep things.

Deskboard stores the board itself, your arrangement, widgets and settings, in a hidden folder inside it. See Where Deskboard stores things.

Find the board on the Deskboard home screen, click the three dots on its card, and choose Delete. Deskboard confirms first, and tells you that your folder’s contents are not affected.

What you keep: every file and folder, exactly where it was.

What you lose: the arrangement, every widget on the board, its theme and wallpaper, and its annotations.
