Nested boards
A board draws two levels of your folder: its own contents, and the contents of the folders inside it. Anything deeper appears as a plain folder. See How boards map to folders for that rule.
When you need to work inside one of those deeper folders, give it a board of its own.
Making a folder into a board
Section titled “Making a folder into a board”Right-click the folder on your board and choose Open with Deskboard.
From then on:
- Double-clicking it on the parent board opens it as a board, in a new tab.
- It gets its own arrangement, its own widgets, its own theme and wallpaper.
- Both boards stay in sync with the same files on disk.
You can nest as far as you like. Each board is independent, and each only ever shows its own two levels.
This is what tabs are for
Section titled “This is what tabs are for”Opening a board from inside another board opens it as a new tab in the same window, rather than replacing what you were looking at. So a nested setup gives you a row of tabs you can move between, and boards you are not looking at stay loaded in the background.
If you never nest boards, you will never see more than one tab. The tab strip and its right-click menu are covered in The board interface.
