What Dax is

Dax is an optional AI assistant built into Deskboard. It can read your files/folders/widgets, answer questions about them, create and change them, and rearrange the board itself.

Click Dax in the title bar to open it.

Dax works on the current board you have open. You can ask it about files, folders and widgets inside the board.

Each board also keeps its own conversations. See Conversations.

Dax never writes to your files or your board behind your back. Anything it changes is shown to you first, with the option to reject it. See Reviewing changes.

Dax does not come with an AI model. You either run one on your own machine, connect an API provider with a key or an MCP server. A free trial key is also provided. See Setting up Dax.

If you do not want Dax on a particular board, tick Hide Dax Button in Board Settings. It removes the button from that board’s title bar.
