Where Deskboard stores things

Every board keeps its data in a hidden .deskboard folder inside the folder it was made from:

  • Your arrangement and your widgets: where everything sits, and every widget with its settings and contents
  • Your annotations
  • Board-owned files: uploaded images, voice recordings, custom icons, your wallpaper and generated thumbnails

Deskboard does not draw this folder on your board, and changes inside it do not trigger a board refresh.

Because everything lives inside the folder, the board travels with it. You can move the folder to any other path, cloud backup or even inside another PC.

You will need to create a reference for it again. See Creating and deleting Boards

Deskboard also keeps its own settings separately, with the app’s data: your list of boards, your chosen language, update preferences and your Dax configuration. These are not inside any of your board folders.

If you back up your folders, you back up your boards: layout, widgets, annotations and all. Nothing about a board lives only in the app.
